
The Nigeria movie industry has been
recognised as a source through which
many actors have risen to fame. However,
the chronicles of the industry cannot be
complete without referencing movie
producers and directors.
Teco Benson is a prolific movie director and
producer who has been able to shine as a
giant star among stars. He has maintained a
good track record of excellence in the
industry since he started his movie career
in 1994.
The Anambra State-born genius who had a
successful career in the civil service;
Anambra State Environmental Protection
Agency, has gotten what it takes to thrill
movie lovers, both locally and
internationally.
The multi-talented filmmaker was on the
Nigerian negotiating team during the crisis
between Nigeria and Ghana film industries
in 2005. Benson also represented the
industry in Israel during a cultural festival
tagged: Fresh Face of Nigeria, where his
film, Explosion, was premiered in 2006.
Recently, Benson, in collaboration with
Stepping Stones Nigeria, to produce a film
titled: “the fake prophet”. The film which
advocates against victimization of children
in the name of witch craft has also been
premiered in other countries of the world.
Kenneth Okonkwo
Kenneth Arinzechukwu Okonkwo, popularly
known as Andy Okonkwo, is the Chief
Executive Officer (CEO), of Goal Productions
Ltd, a movie producing and marketing firm.
The actor who has turned film-maker,
producer and marketer, holds a Bachelor of
Science degree in Management from the
University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Also, he holds
a Bachelor in Theology- Pentecostal
International Bible Seminary, Lagos as well
as Masters in International Law and
Diplomacy, University of Lagos.
Okonkwo, knowing that he had the talent,
launched his career in acting immediately
after his University education, in 1991. As
an actor then, the producer featured in over
40 movies including “Living in Bondage”,
“Taboo”, “World Apart” and a host of
others. He has also proved his dexterity in
film making.
Chico Ejiro
Chico Maziakpono Ejiro is a Nigerian movie
producer to be reckoned with. He owns a
production company called Grand Touch
Pictures, in Lagos.
Ejiro ventured into video production in the
90s when cheap video-production
equipment became available in the country.
He has directed over 100 movies and
featured in the 2007 documentary;
Welcome to Nollywood, which followed him
as he made Family Affair 1 and Family Affair
2.
Amaka Igwe
Amaka Igwe is a prolific writer and movie
director. She is reckoned as one of the
foremost movie directors in the Nigeria
movie industry.
The Enugu State-born movie director is a
graduate of Education and Religious Study
from the University of Ife and a master
degree in Library and Information Services
from the University of Ibadan. Some of her
early works like Checkmate and Violated,
have largely remained as turning point in
the history of soaps and movie production
in Nigeria
She is a recipient of numerous awards,
including that of life time achievement from
the organisers of the annual African Movie
Academy Awards (AMAA).
Zeb Ejiro
Zeb Ejiro also made wave in the late 80s and
90s. Among the popular movies that
brought him to limelight in the industry are
Nneka the Pretty Serpent, Fatal Desire, Ikoko,
Mortal Inheritance and a host of others.
